Service

Independent new-build AV/IT owner representation.

A continuous, owner-aligned technical voice across your 18–36 month build cycle. We attend FAT, HAT, and SAT milestones physically, coordinate with builders and integrators, and track tech defects to ensure a flawless delivery.

Milestones

What we cover.

From initial drawing packages to raw sea testing, we act exclusively on the owner's behalf to ensure that the shipyard delivery matches the highest technical standards—without bloated margins or vendor bias.

Yard and specification oversight

Continuous alignment monitoring between the original build specification, yard guidelines, and the actual integrator deliverables to eliminate scope drift early.

Factory Acceptance Trials (FAT)

Attending physical off-site factory assemblies to audit equipment racks, cabling standards, and basic code configurations before systems ship to the shipyard.

Harbour Acceptance Trials (HAT)

On-site yard presence to audit installed hardware, physical cable containment, RF shielding, power distribution, thermal loading, and network physical layers.

Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT)

In-flight testing of multi-orbit satcom switching (Starlink/VSAT), Pepwave cellular bonding, TVRO tracking, and structural stabilization under operational conditions.

Defect tracking and variations

Maintaining an independent, owner-aligned tech defect register with clear impact ratings, and reviewing shipyard variation claims for padding or unnecessary scope.

Handover documentation audit

Rigorous review of as-built drawings, network topologies, configuration files, administrative credentials, and OEM warranties to prevent post-delivery lock-in.

Independent & Unbiased. We do not sell hardware, represent integrators, or accept referral fees. Our loyalty is entirely with the owner.

ETO Marine Credentials. Scoped and delivered by Noel Pope, a qualified ETO Cadet and MCA ETO III/6 Unlimited with active commissioning experience on 100m+ vessels.

Cyber & Network Focus. Palo Alto certified technical architect. We ensure your vessel's infrastructure has defensible segmentation, isolated OT environments, and secure remote-access pipelines.

FAQ

Common questions.

Why do I need an owner's rep specifically for AV/IT?
Marine surveyors excel at hull, mechanical, and structural inspections, but rarely have background in network topology, Crestron/Q-SYS programming, or cybersecurity. We provide the specialized technical oversight required to prevent expensive post-delivery network rebuilds.
At what stage of the new build should you be engaged?
The earlier, the better. Engaging us during the specification stage (scope validation) is ideal. However, bringing us on before shipyard FAT milestones (typically 12–18 months before delivery) ensures we can audit hardware assemblies before they are locked behind yacht bulkheads.
How do you coordinate with the shipyard and integrator?
We act as your independent, professional technical advocate. We do not disrupt yard timelines; we interface directly with the shipyard's project manager and the integrator's technical lead under structured shipyard protocols.
Do you attend HAT and SAT milestones in person?
Yes. While proposal reviews and drawing audits are handled remotely, milestone commissioning (FAT at integrator facilities, HAT at shipyards, and SAT at sea) can be audited physically in person where permitted by local entry guidelines. We interface globally with major Northern European and international builders.
What are your monthly retainer options?
New-build representation is structured as a productised monthly retainer, typically ranging from £8,000 to £15,000 per month depending on vessel size (e.g., 60m vs. 100m+) and milestone frequency. Retainers include all off-site document reviews and a set number of shipyard site visits.
